Prevalence of mycoplasma pneumoniae and macrolide resistance in children with community-acquired pneumonia: a case study in a teaching hospital
Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is one of the causes of upper and lower respiratory tract infections especially in children, and antibiotics affecting the cell wall do not affect this type of infection. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and macrolide resistance in children with community-acquired pneumonia in Kerman city. Methods: This cross-sectional study...

BACKGROUND Pneumonia remain an important public health problem. The primary objective was to determine the proportion of community-acquired pneumonia that is attributable to Streptococcus pneumoniae infection; secondary objectives were the description of community-acquired pneumonia attributable to Streptococcus pneumoniae according to socio-demographic and clinical variables, the clinical evol...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance of clinical isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae in Greece.
The antibiotic susceptibilities of 1,002 Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates from patients with community-acquired pneumonia were determined over an 18-month period. Resistance rates were 14% for penicillin, 20% for erythromycin, 26% for tetracycline, and 1% for chloramphenicol. Resistance to non-beta-lactam antibiotics was associated with penicillin resistance at statistically levels.
متن کاملThe clinical significance of macrolide-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae: it's all relative.
Macrolides are currently recommended as first-line agents for the empirical treatment of community-acquired pneumonia. Heavy use of these agents for a variety of indications has resulted in an increasing incidence of macrolide resistance among pneumococcal isolates. Although several case reports and small case series have suggested that in vitro macrolide resistance is associated with treatment...
